How is your information kept secure?
Our Products work by asking specific questions about your taste and identity. It’s important that we keep this information secure.
We do this by removing your personal information such as your name, email address, social media profile and exact geographic location from your taste and identity preferences. We use encryption to make sure that your personal information can not be identified with your taste and identity information. All of the information that we collect about your preferences is anonymized in this way. We can not know who has which taste and identity preferences due to this encryption.
How do we collect information with our Products?

Our Matchmaker asks a number of questions about your taste and identity. We do this in an open and transparent way so that you are able to consider what is most important to you. We use your answers to provide recommendations.
Our catalog is a resource for our curated book and movie favorites. Users may search this catalog and find content that they’d like to read or watch. In order to make your experience as enjoyable as possible, we collect information about your usage of the catalog.
Commercial insights and analysis
In addition to connecting our users with books and movies about women and non-binary people, we also work with book publishers and movie producers to create more content by and about women and non-binary people. To do this, we use the anonymized, aggregated data of our users to gain insight about audiences’ tastes and preferences. Through these insights, we are able to understand what content our audiences seek and support publishers and producers to fill those needs.
Third parties and advertisers
We recommend content to our users that we think that they'll enjoy. If a user clicks on a link to buy content, they will be sent to a third pary website to purchase this content.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. We are also a participant in the Performance Horizon Group Limited (PH) affiliate advertising program that operates on behalf of Apple. Inc. Again, we earn fees by linking to Apple. Inc. sites.
These third parties and advertisers may serve content and advertisements to our users. They may collect information directly from visitors, and place or cookies on visitors’ browsers. They may also use code to collect information from visitors. They may collect user IP addresses and browser details. They may process user personal data, including users' clicks on links and subsequent purchases. They may disclose users’ personal data to advertisers and to PH and its associated companies. They may also transfer users’ personal data outside the users’ territory, by PH.
If a user wishes to opt-out from online advertising and the collection of data from third parties and advertisers, we advise that our users not click on our 'buy now' or 'watch now' buttons and links.

All the information we collect is used to help us improve our Products and better fulfill our mission of increasing representation of women and non-binary folk in the entertainment industry. Things that you do.
We collect information that you provide when you use our Products. This includes when you create an account, save your preferences, rate your recommendations, and sort your recommendations. We do this so that we can save your selected preferences for the next time you return to our Product.
We collect information about how you use our Products such as the content that you engage with, the features that you use, the actions you take and the time, frequency and duration of your activities. We also note when you have used our Products and how you navigated to our Products. This is especially useful as we try to make the Narrative Muse experience as awesome as it can possibly be.
We note when you have used any of our links to our advertising and affiliate partners. For our advertising partners, it’s important to know the success of our promotions. And it is also important for us to know if you are able to find the content that you are looking for through our affiliate links.
We collect the taste and identity preferences that you provide to us. This helps us make sure we’re giving you recommendations that are tailored to you specifically.
The devices that you use.
We note the devices that you use so that we are able to provide better services for your devices in the future.
We collect information about how you navigate through our Products across your phone, computer, or tablet so that we can understand whether our Products are working as best they can. We measure actions that you take using our features, content, ads, affiliate links, and more, so we can constantly improve our services.

Your mouse movements which can help us learn better user design as well as to help confirm a human from a bot.

How do we use the information we collect?
The information that we collect allows Narrative Muse to develop our Products and provide our services.
We provide personalized recommendations of books and movies based on the taste, identity and geographic information that you provide to us.
We may use information about your location to provide recommendations that are specific to your geographic location.
We may provide sponsored recommendations and ads that are specific for you. Based on what we know of your taste and preferences, we may connect you with sponsored ads, offers, and other content that we believe are a great match for you.
We use the information that we collect to develop, test, and improve our Products and features.
Commercial insight and analysis services.
We use information that we collect to provide audience insights to our commercial partners. In order to maintain the integrity of our users, we anonymize and aggregate this data. We do this by removing all personal markers that connect your taste, identity information, and preferences from your personally identifying information. And we combine your data with data about our other users, which means your information becomes part of a much larger measurement of information in which we look at data trends.
We will never use your name, social media accounts, or email with any of our commercial partnerships. We will never sell your name, social media account information, or email to a third-party.
We also use the information that we collect to help advertisers and commercial partners measure the effectiveness and distribution of their ads and sponsored content, and understand the types of people who have been served these recommendations.
Promote safety, integrity, and security.
We use the information that we collect to verify accounts and activity, combat harmful conduct, detect and prevent other bad experiences, maintain the integrity of our Products, and promote safety and security on and off Narrative Muse Products. For example, we use data that we have to investigate suspicious activity or breaches of our Terms and Conditions.
Communication with you.
We may use the information you provide to send you reminders about your recommendations, updates about our Products and services, marketing communications, and to let you know about any updates to our Terms and Conditions. We also use your information to respond to you when you contact us.
Research and innovation.
We use the information that we collect to conduct and support research and innovation on topics like recommendation engines, audience behavior, technological advancement, and the need for more representation in media by and about women and non-binary people. We also collaborate with research partners to better understand these topics.
How is your information shared?
Sharing to social media platforms.
Any information that you share from our Products is at your discretion. We will never share any of your information publicly on any platform.
We may provide advertisers with reports about the kinds of people seeing their ads and how their ads are performing, but we don't share information that personally identifies you (information such as your name or email address that by itself can be used to contact you or identifies who you are) unless you give us permission. For example, we provide general demographic and interest information to advertisers (for example, that an ad was seen by a woman between the ages of 35 and 49 who lives in Canada and likes books about the arts) to help them better understand their audience. We also confirm which Narrative Muse ads led users to make a purchase or take an action with an advertiser.
We may share anonymized information about users with companies that aggregate it in order to provide analytics and measurement reports to our partners.
Vendors and service providers.
We may provide information and content to vendors and service providers who support our business, such as by providing technical infrastructure services, analyzing how our Products are used, providing customer service, facilitating payments or conducting surveys.
Researchers and academics.
We may also provide information and content to research partners and academics to conduct research that advances scholarship and innovation that supports our business or mission and enhances discovery and innovation on topics of women and non-binary people on screen and in print.
How can I delete my account?
You may delete your account at any time. You do this by going to My Profile, Security, and then Delete account. Your personal information including your name, email address, and social media account connections will be deleted. We will be unable to retrieve your matches, recommendations, preferences, and information again, should you want them.
How is your information used globally?
We store the information that we collect on servers provided by our service providers around the globe. We use best practice to ensure that all of our data remains safe and secure.
We share information globally, both internally within the Narrative Muse companies, and externally with our partners and with those you connect and share with around the world in accordance with this Policy. Your information may, for example, be transferred or transmitted to, or stored and processed in the United States or other countries outside of where you live for the purposes as described in this Policy. These data transfers are necessary to provide the services set forth in the Narrative Muse Terms and Conditions, and to globally operate and provide our Products to you. We utilize standard contract clauses, rely on the European Commission's adequacy decisions about certain countries, as applicable, and obtain your consent for these data transfers to the United States and other countries.
