Who we are
A big bunch of movie, TV-and-book-loving, inclusivity-obsessed, would-be world-changers. We’re as tired of the same old stories as you are, and we’ve come together to do something about it!
What we do
At Narrative Muse, we want to transform the entertainment industry by connecting audiences with the best books, movies, and TV by and about women and non-binary people. We do this with our recommendation matchmaker that matches book lovers and movie/TV buffs with personalized recommendations based on taste, identity, and how they want to feel.
Who we’re looking for
You! We recruit for the following positions on a rolling basis. And if none of them sound like the right fit, become a Muser by following us on social media on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, or simply using our site to find your next fave book or movie.
Curators: Data is crucial to our platform becoming smarter and better at identifying matches for our users. Curation, then, is the core of Narrative Muse. As a curator, you’re helping to elevate and showcase books, movies, and TV by and about women and non-binary folk by telling us all about stories you’ve loved. As a curator, you will fill in a data survey for each book, movie, and TV series that you would like to curate for our audiences.
Copywriters: We write brief descriptions about every book, movie, and TV series that we recommend to our users and why we recommend it. We’re looking for copywriters to write these ‘personal ads’ as we call them. We want to talk to you if you’re someone who loves writing with a playful style and can summarize plots and characters, and distill what will really draw a target Muser to a movie, series, or book. Our curators’ data will give you all the information you need; your job is to transform it into captivating copy.
Reviewers: Our reviews aim to provide your personal perspective along with a sense of the work’s characters, plot, setting, and pacing. At the end, the reader should feel like they were part of a fascinating conversation about a book, movie, or series. Our reviewers should be able to understand a range of views and opinions, and write reviews in a compelling, knowledgeable and inclusive way, adhering to the Narrative Muse style guides.
Note: Currently, our priority is curation and copywriting in order to help our users find the best recommendations for books and movies that we can offer. Due to this, we only pay contributors for reviews assigned by the Narrative Muse team. We do however continue to accept voluntary review submissions that meet our criteria of being written, screenwritten, directed, or having a leading character that is a woman or non-binary person.
Narrative Muse is an impact-driven startup, currently transitioning from a fully volunteer-based organization to a paid model, so while work will be compensated, these are not full-time or part-time positions. Rather, compensation will be per contribution. You’re free to be as active as you like.
If you’re interested in joining us as a contributor, please fill out this Google Expression of Interest Form.
